Team Paddle International

Paddle International was founded by Dave, who is still very much at the heart of everything we do as owner, lead coach and guide. Alongside a small team of trusted associates, Dave has spent nearly 20 years coaching, guiding and leading kayak and canoe journeys in the UK and further afield.

We’re a team of experienced paddlers, coaches and guides who love spending time on the water in all its forms. Between us, we paddle and coach across open canoe, sea kayak, whitewater kayak, packraft and SUP, delivering everything from paddlesport coaching and Paddle UK training to guided expeditions and skills-based courses. That breadth of experience shapes the way we work and allows us to support paddlers with more depth, flexibility and perspective on the water.

We’re also passionate expedition paddlers. Over the years, we’ve explored and guided in some remarkable places - from the Nepalese Himalaya and the European Alps to Scandinavia, North and South America, and all over the UK. Those journeys have shaped the way we paddle, coach and lead today.

At the heart of it, Paddle International is about sharing meaningful time on the water. We love everything from quiet journeys through beautiful landscapes to challenging whitewater, exposed coastlines and longer expeditions in wild places. What matters most to us is helping people build confidence, judgement and enjoyment on the water - whether they’re just getting started, preparing for something bigger, or simply looking for a great journey with good people.

Dave Janes

BCAB Advanced Leader and Coach provider in

Sea Kayak, Open Canoe & White Water

Paddle UK National Trainer

Paddle UK Endorsed Guide

Dave grew up in the undisputed centre of the white water universe - Llangollen, North Wales, and began paddling boats around a similar time he learned to walk.  After competing in kayak slalom in his school years, Dave left school to journey around the world, white water paddling and guiding - with stints in Nepal, Zambia, India, Chile, Patagonia and Norway - as well as racking up an impressive list of rivers and adventures.

Dave honed his guiding and leadership skills on hundreds of multi-day expeditions in a variety of environments. On settling back in the UK and North Wales, his skills and passion for white water diversified into the disciplines of sea kayaking and open canoeing (with guiding stints in the Mediterranean, Adriatic and the significant parts of the coast of Norway.)  He also developed his skills as a coach and educator to an advanced level, across these disciplines - working at both National Outdoor Training centres and a wide range of organisations.

Lucy Bryant

Paddle UK Sea Kayak Leader

Lucy has loved being around water for as long as she can remember, thanks to an outdoorsy mum who introduced her to swimming before she could walk. Her passion for paddling began at her local canoe club, where she discovered how kayaking opened up a whole new world of exploration, wildlife encounters, and brilliant paddling friends.

Inspired to share that joy with others, Lucy went on to qualify as a Sea Kayak Leader and now loves guiding people on memorable adventures out on the water.
